MPI have opened up $25m of funding, to be used for remedial work after Cyclone Gabrielle.
The fact-sheet and checklist are attached, and the link to further details and the application form is below:
The grants are:
- up to $10,000 for pastoral and arable farmers/growers to help with initial recovery, such as repairs to water infrastructure for livestock, and fencing
- up to $2,000 per hectare (up to a maximum of $40,000) to remove silt from trees and vines, support clean-up, and minimise future losses.
Types of costs covered by the grant:
- staff costs associated with clean-up
- cost of contracting companies
- cost of advice to help with clean-up and recovery activities.
Examples here in the Kaipara might be for stop-bank repair, flood-gate repair, repairs to fences. Services provided by volunteer groups are not eligible for grant funding. A group of primary sector experts will help monitor the funding to ensure it is going towards appropriate uses.
Note that it's important to keep records of how the funds are used - it's suggested:
1. Take photographs/video/drone footage of the work you need to do (ie the damage) to
document it. Make sure it is date stamped or the date is identifiable. Do the same when the work is happening.
2. Keep a ‘diary’ explaining the what, why, how. So detail around your background decision making.
3. If you get a quote for the work, keep it.
4. Make sure the invoices you get for any work done are clearly identifiable for the materials or if it is a contractor that it clearly states what work is undertaken for audit purposes.
5. If the grant is used to pay staff wages make sure there is a time sheet detailing the work done kept with the wages records.
In the past this sort of fund ends up being oversubscribed, BUT they apportion the funds
between applications so just put that application in, anything received is better than nothing.
